Overview

Mercury Bay Game Fishing Club (MBGFC) is one of New Zealand’s most active and respected fishing clubs, with a rich history and a strong community base. To support their growing needs and modernize operations, we partnered with the club to develop a completely custom digital platform — built to manage their members, tournaments, and club communications.

Project Scope
This was an end-to-end build, covering everything from research and requirements gathering through to design, development, and launch. The goal was to create a flexible, future-proof system that would evolve alongside the club’s needs.

Phase One – Web App Launch
The first release of the platform focused on three core areas:

• Member Management: Custom tools for tracking and updating member data, subscriptions, and communications.
• Public Website: An integrated, easy-to-manage website for news, events, and club information.
• Tournament Listings: A dynamic system for promoting upcoming fishing tournaments, with structured data and self-management tools.

Challenges & Solutions
The biggest challenge was designing a platform that could accommodate MBGFC’s unique workflows — from how they register members, to how tournament data is collected and displayed. Off-the-shelf solutions weren’t a fit, so we built custom logic and interfaces that mirrored their internal processes while introducing efficiencies and usability improvements.

Phase Two – In Development
Work is currently underway on Phase Two, which will include:

• Catch Records System: Allowing the club to digitally log and track fish catches, replacing manual systems.
• Tournament Management Tools: Enabling real-time results, leaderboards, and streamlined coordination during major events.

What Makes It Special
This isn’t just a software tool — it’s a tailored system designed specifically for the culture and operations of one club. We worked closely with MBGFC stakeholders throughout the build to ensure the platform feels like a natural extension of the way they work.

Outcome So Far
The new system will improve how MBGFC manages its growing member base and communicates with the community. And with Phase Two on the way, there’s even more value still to come.
